New drama indie Home Team has hired Giri/Haji script editor Jessica Hill as senior development executive.

Hill joins Home Team after three years working with Sister, where she was Script Executive on HBO/Sky’s upcoming drama Landscapers, and Script Editor for BBC and Netflix’s series Giri/Haji.

Launched in September 2020, with the backing from Calculus Capital and Stargrove Pictures’ Calculus Creative Content EIS Fund, and led by producers Dominic Buchanan (The End of The F***ing World) and Bennett McGhee (Mogul Mowgli), the UK based Home Team’s intention is to identify and develop under-represented creatives and nurture exciting new voices- primarily, but not restricted to, filmmakers of colour and female filmmakers, through interactive as well as traditional film and TV platforms.

Home Team’s development slate, with previously includes a collaboration with BBC Films on Shola Amoo’s follow-up to feature, The Last Tree; a new BFI-backed film project directed by Destiny Ekaragha (The End of the F***ing World, Gone Too Far!) and Danielle Ward (comedian and writer of In the Long Run); Nadia Latif & Omar El-Khairy’s (White Girl) feature debut, which is the upcoming horror film Welcome, currently being developed with Film4 and the BFI; and a new television series directed by Kate Herron (Sex Education, Loki), which she is co-writing alongside Briony Redman(Angry Quiz Guy) and will be co-produced with Douglas Cox (Host).

Originally starting out in theatre, Hill began her career in television as a Business Affairs Executive for BBC Drama, before moving into the world of development including roles as Assistant Script Editor for BBC period drama The Musketeers, and Script Editor of ITV’s critically acclaimed Victoria series for Mammoth Screen. In 2015, Hill co-founded a new writing competition with Leeds and Ilkley Playhouses.

Hill commented: “Bennett and Dominic are dynamic producers with creative integrity and deservedly great relationships with talent. Their growing slate demonstrates their commitment to unexpected, unique storytelling and I am absolutely delighted to be joining them at Home Team.

Co-founding partners McGhee and Buchanan added: “This is an exhilarating moment for Home Team, Jess joins us at this early and vital stage of the company, bringing her creative acumen, exceptional taste and desire to tell stories from exciting under-represented filmmakers, that is at the core of Home Team. She will be a key part of the team, and we could not be more delighted!”
