Tern TV’s Harry Bell is to leave the Zinc Media indie after 25 years with the company.
Bell co-founded Tern Glasgow in 2001 and is now moving on to pursue new challenges as a freelance creative.
The company launched Tern Belfast in 2006 and Bell became MD in 2018.
Some of the indie’s hits include Emergency Helicopter Medics, Ben Fogle’s Sacred Islands, Britain’s Lost Masterpieces, Vinnie Jones: Russia’s Toughest, and Beechgrove Garden. Most recently Tern’s Factual Entertainment formats include BBC One’s Saturday night quiz The Inner Circle starring Amanda Holden, and forthcoming reality format Race Against the Tide with Iain Stirling.
David Marshall will step into the role of Creative Director of Tern TV, leading the company’s creative strategy across all genres and building on its recent expansion into entertainment.
Neil Dimmock will continue to lead Tern Northern Ireland, maintaining the company’s strong Nations footprint and ensuring continued growth and delivery from that Nation as part of Tern’s wider UK strategy.
Harry Bell said: ‘It’s been emotional. I’ve loved the programmes, the parties and, most of all, the people. Terns are special – we go to the ends of the earth for each other. Thank you to all of you. From our wee bit hill and glen we’ve built a Nations powerhouse and an Internationally renowned creative business. I’m delighted to be leaving the company in such good hands under David Marshall and our brilliant colleagues across Zinc Media Group. I will look back with huge affection, but, as I’ve always said: “TV is about Futures”. I can’t wait to get truly hands-on again, nurturing new talent, genre bending and dreaming up monster hits for the new global creator economy’.
Mark Browning, CEO of Zinc Media Group added: ‘Harry has been a fantastic leader of Tern and for our operations in Scotland and across the UK; an unwavering advocate for Nations talent, a brilliant creative and a wonderful colleague. He leaves Tern and Zinc well placed to take on new challenges in its next chapter and we wish him the very best in the next stage of his career.’
