The BBC will premiere four new Comedy Shorts on BBC iPlayer this summer. Brain in Gear, Lazy Susan, Mandy and Sorry are produced by BBC Studios and Tiger Aspect and commissioned by BBC commissioning editor Alex Moody.
2018’s Comedy Shorts Wonderdate and The Mind of Herbert Clunkerdunk received BAFTA nominations and a four-part series of The Mind of Herbert Clunkerdunk has been commissioned by BBC Two.
Shane Allen, controller Comedy Commissioning BBC says: “These shorts are a fast track way to back generation defining comedy talents to experiment with story and form. They also offer the comedy audience a novel way to watch comedy in more readily digestible ways as their attention is being pulled in so many more ways than ever before.”
Brain in Gear, written by and starring Gbemisola Ikumelo (Famalam, The Last Tree) is a flat-share comedy where the nightmare tenants… are the voices in your head. It is a BBC Studios production, with producer Inez Gordon and executive producers Ben Caudell and Sam Ward.
Lazy Susan from comedy duo Lazy Susan – Freya Parker and Celeste Dring – will feature new creations alongside some of their best-loved characters from their stage shows It is a Tiger Aspect production with producers Amy Annette and Katie Churchill and executive producer Myfanwy Moore.
Mandy is a directorial debut for Diane Morgan (Cunk On Britain, Motherland, After Life) who also wrote and stars in this film about a woman who really wants a sofa. It’s a BBC Studios production with producer Sam Ward and executive producer Ben Caudell.
Sorry is written by and stars Lolly Adefope (Ghosts, This Time With Alan Partridge, Shrill). Dolly Adesina, an actress on the verge of super-stardom and a self-described ‘black Jennifer Lawrence’, is on the way to the London premiere of her first Hollywood film. Sorry is a Tiger Aspect production written by and starring Lolly Adefope. The producer is Pippa Brown and executive producer is Damian Kavanagh.
Mandy, Lazy Susan & Sorry will be available on BBC iPlayer from Thursday 25th July. Brain in Gear will be available on BBC iPlayer from Saturday 3rd August. BBC Two transmission details are yet to be confirmed.
