Drama production indie, Clapperboard Studios, has announced a strategic partnership with Lime Pictures and L16 Studios to boost its production within the UK, with at least two shows planned to shoot in North West England in 2027.

The studio has produced more than 33 series and 161 hours of television for the UK market in the last five years. Much of this output has been filmed internationally to access local tax credit systems. Credits include Benidorm is Murder, Love Rat, The Holiday, The Cuckoo, and Number One Fan for 5, Girl Taken, The Castaways, The Ex-Wife and The Serial Killer’s Wife for Paramount+ and Paris is Always a Good Idea for Hallmark Media.

After five years growing the business, Clapperboard now seeks to increase content filmed in the UK and the joint venture with Lime Pictures and L16 will give the company both a strategic studio partner in the UK and a route to other UK regional and national funding avenues.

As part of the deal, Clapperboard will have access to L16 Studios a purpose-built production facility which offers flexible studio space, production offices post productions suites and a diverse range of sets all in one location.  It will also be able to utilise the various highly skilled production teams housed at Lime.

Mike Benson, Managing Director of Clapperboard Studios, comments: “Our ambition has always been to produce more of our output in the Nations and Regions of the UK. In this joint venture with Lime we feel we have found a perfect partner. With the financial challenges of the current market, link ups between companies who bring different assets, facilities and financing to the table seems to be a viable way forward.”

Managing Director of Lime Pictures, John Whittle said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Clapperboard on this exciting strategic venture. Lime has a great history of making television in the North West and as a company we are passionate about building on that legacy and attracting more productions to the region. With L16 Studios, our wealth of production talent, Digital 16 and all the facilities we have here, it makes for a fantastic opportunity to create a home for yet more ambitious drama in Liverpool. Working with Clapperboard will allow us to bring together our respective expertise and resources, creating more job opportunities in the North West.
