CBeebies has commissioned a second series of kids’ show Olga Da Polga from Scottish production company Maramedia.

The show is adapted from the books of children’s author Michael Bond (Paddington) and follow the stories of a guinea pig, her animal friends and the Sawdust family, who she lives with.

The series is a live-action drama with 2D animation and talking animal VFX. Following its TV debut last Christmas, CBeebies has commissioned a further 15 episodes of the series from Maramedia.

Jackie Savery (Maramedia Creative Director) said: “In today’s troubled times, the funny and engaging stories of Michael Bond’s Olga the guinea pig and her friends offer reassuring and life-affirming stories full of warmth and fun. We’re thrilled that CBeebies have commissioned a second series.”

The series stars real life couple Julie Wilson Nimmo (Balamory), who plays Mrs Sawdust, Greg Hempill (Still Game) as Mr Sawdust and Isla Mercer as Karen. Olga is voiced by actress Lesley Harcourt. The series is directed by Michael Hines and Andrew Agnew. Lead writer is Sara Daddy (Lily’s Driftwood Bay, Puffin Rock, Claude). The score was composed by Emmy award-winning Welsh composer Brollyman and VFX and animation were provided by Doghouse in Bristol and Interference Pattern in Edinburgh.

Maramedia specialises in children’s and wildlife filmmaking. Under its Mara Kids brand, Maramedia also produced the award-winning series Hushabye Lullaby and Gudrun the Viking Princess. Company Directors Nigel Pope and Jackie Savery were behind other key children’s award-winning brands including Balamory, Raven, The Really Wild Show, CBeebies Springwatch and Green Balloon Club.
