Filming has now begun on the second series of hit drama Patience produced by Eagle Eye Drama (The Couple Next Door, Professor T).

Series one, which aired earlier this year, is Channel 4’s biggest drama of 2025 so far and averaged 4.2 million viewers. Joining the cast for series two will be BAFTA-winning actor, Jessica Hynes (Spaced, There She Goes, W1A, Miss Austen) as DI Frankie Monroe “who will bring a different dynamic to the station and a new boss for Patience and the team.”

Returning for an extended run of eight episodes, Patience (Ella Maisy Purvis) will continue her work in the police criminal records department of City of York Police after establishing herself as an invaluable member of the team, bringing her unique insight into a series of perplexing cases. However, when a new boss, Detective Frankie Monroe (Jessica Hynes) brings a very different management style, it proves tricky for them both to navigate. Love is also in the air in this series as Patience begins a relationship with a work colleague Elliot and the police department gets a makeover with the arrival of a new PR consultant all whilst tackling intriguing crimes in extraordinary settings such as York Minster.

Series two sees the return of regular cast members Nathan Welsh (Trying, Am I Being Unreasonable?) as DS Jake Hunter, Mark Benton (Smoggie Queens, Shakespeare and Hathaway) as Calvin Baxter, Adrian Rawlins (Chernobyl, Living) as Douglas Gilmore, Ali Ariaie (The Great, Doctor Who) as DC Will Akbari, Connor Curren (Dodger, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time) as Billy Thompson, Liza Sadovy (A Real Pain, The Rumour) as Dr. Loretta Parsons and Tom Lewis (Gentleman Jack, Redeeming Love) as Elliot Scott.

Jessica Hynes says: “I am thrilled to be joining the cast of Patience as DI Frankie Monroe – I hugely enjoyed the first series as a viewer and looking forward to joining the team for the second series to be in the middle of the action.”

Patience was acquired for Channel 4 by Polly Scates, Head of Acquisitions, and is produced by Eagle Eye Drama (The Couple Next Door, Professor T) which is part of ITV Studios. Maarten Moerkerke (13 Commandments) returns to direct alongside Raf Reyntjens with Executive Producers Jo McGrath, Alison Kee and Walter Iuzzolino.

Patience, which is adapted from the original series Astrid & Raphaëlle produced by JLA Productions for France TV, will be distributed worldwide by Beta Film. Six of the episodes from series two are written by Amy Schindler and Beth Chalmers with additional episodes written by Rachel Smith and Jacqui Honess-Martin.

The series is being produced in association with Happy Duck Films and is supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter.  PBS Distribution holds the North American Rights to Patience.
