Argonon’s BriteSpark Films has been commissioned by Channel 4 for a quick turnaround Dispatches special, Will My Holiday Be Cancelled This Summer? (wt).

Dispatches reporter Kate Quilton investigates how the Iran War – and the ongoing issue of the blockage of vital shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz – will affect the holiday plans of British tourists this summer. Speaking to airlines, travel agents, holiday experts and industry insiders, Dispatches sets out to paint a picture of the weeks and months ahead in the tourism industry and offers tips, guidance and insights to help Brits plan their summer holiday.

The programme explores the key questions facing holidaymakers concerned about the possible effects of world events on their travel plans. Will my holiday be impacted by jet fuel shortages? Which destinations carry the most risk? Should I risk booking if I haven’t yet done so? Can I cancel if already booked? How do I protect myself from price surges and fuel surcharges? The documentary also examines the issue of insurance small print and how much you are protected, if plans change and costs mount.

The programme looks closer to home to explore the best value places for a staycation in the UK with tips on how to get a good deal. Dispatches also investigates how rising demand for domestic holidays is affecting pricing at home.

Tom Porter, Executive Producer and BriteSpark’s Creative Director said: “Across the UK, the holiday plans of millions of Brits are in limbo due to the conflict in the Middle East. This documentary searches for answers to the most pressing questions, providing advice, insight and guidance to help holidaymakers plan their summer trips.”

Dispatches: Will My Holiday Be Cancelled This Summer (wt) is executive produced by Tom Porter for BriteSpark East and is produced and directed by Nick London. The programme is commissioned by Adam Vandermark, Commissioning Editor, News and Current Affairs, Channel 4.

BriteSpark has previously produced a number of current affairs specials for Dispatches including most recently, Delivered to a Predator: Al-Fayed’s Fixer, Skinny Jab Scandal and Why is My Car So Expensive?
