Blink Films is producing a new documentary that sees The Wire co-stars Clarke Peters and Dominic West travelling through Kyrgyzstan.

Dominic West (The Crown, The Affair) and Clarke Peters (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) first met on the set of The Wire, “a series that defined their careers and sparked a lifelong friendship, they bonded over a shared love of horsemanship and the great outdoors.”

Twenty years later, the pair will travel though Kyrgyzstan “a country of harsh beauty and tight communities that still live by the horse.”

Blink Films (A Tin Roof Media company) is producing Beyond The Silk Road that follows the two men, together with their expert guide Alexandra Tolstoy.

Beyond The Silk Road has a world premiere, attended by West and Peters, on Wednesday 25th February at the Vue Cinema, Leicester Square, London, in advance of its launch at the London Screenings by Blue Ant Rights and is available as a 90-minute feature documentary, and two-part series.

Travelling primarily on horseback, they’ll navigate one of the world’s most remote and ancient routes: Kyrgyzstan’s Silk Road. Embracing a lifestyle that has been perfectly preserved for thousands of years by the Kyrgyz people, the two men live in yurts, and take part in age-old sports and rituals, recycling everything and leaving nothing behind.

Dominic West said: “It was a real privilege to get a taste of what life was like for the traders of the ancient Silk Road and to head out into the wilderness with my old friend Clarke. There were some pretty hair-raising moments scaling the precipitous mountain passes on horseback, particularly with my questionable equine skills. But we had the adventure of a lifetime thanks to our extraordinary guide Alexandra.”

Clarke Peters said: “When I got that call from my dear friend Dominic to join him on this horseback adventure, I knew we’d have fun, but I couldn’t have imagined just how special the experience would be.  To connect with an ancient way of life and extraordinary Kyrgyz people, in such a breathtaking landscape, it reminds you what life is really all about.”

Alexandra Tolstoy added: “I’ve been coming to Kyrgyzstan for 25 years and the people here are like family to me. I’m always nervous that it’s only me that loves Kyrgyzstan this much. So, to see Dominic and Clarke fall under its spell makes me incredibly proud.”

Justine Kershaw, Creative Director, Blink Films said: Dominic and Clarke’s deep friendship, thirst for adventure and real purpose make Beyond The Silk Road not only incredibly entertaining but timely. With all the craziness going on in the world right this film is just the tonic we need.”

“Dominic and Clarke take us on a journey that feels deeply personal, with the documentary offering audiences unique access to a way of life few outsiders ever experience,” said Barnaby Shingleton, Senior Vice President Acquisitions, Blue Ant Studios. “It’s exactly the kind of premium, authored documentary that resonates with audiences worldwide, and we’re proud to be launching and distributing the film globally.”

Beyond The Silk Road is a Blink Films production. It is produced by Claire Bugden, directed by Sean McDonnell, and executive produced by Laura Jones, Justine Kershaw and Alexandra Tolstoy.  Blue Ant Rights is the global distribution partner. Blink Films is a Tin Roof Media company.
