BBC Scotland has announced a new slate of factual commissions from Firecrest Films, Finestripe Productions and Rogan Productions.
The new orders span subjects including true crime, contemporary history, terrorism and the role of mythology in popular culture.
The new commissions include docs on the 2007 Glasgow Airport attack, an access doc on Tommy Sheridan, a new series of Murder Case and a series about popular myths.
Terror at the Terminal (2 x 60) – a definitive account of the 2007 Glasgow Airport attack. Produced by Firecrest Films for BBC Scotland, this two-part documentary tells the story of the failed attacks that targeted London’s West End and Glasgow Airport in June 2007. Combining remarkable first-hand testimony, rarely heard perspectives, archive and CCTV, the series takes viewers inside one of the most significant counter-terrorism investigations in modern British history before placing them at the heart of the extraordinary events at Glasgow Airport.
Tommy Sheridan: Caught in the Headlines (WT) (2 x 60) – Produced by Finestripe Productions, offers an intimate and revealing account of one of Scotland’s most charismatic and controversial political figures. Featuring exclusive access to Tommy Sheridan and, for the first time, his wife Gail, the series charts his journey from anti-poll tax campaigner and socialist MSP to the scandals, court cases and imprisonment that transformed his public reputation.
Murder Case (4×60) – Acclaimed and award-winning documentary series Murder Case returns, focussing on three new cases – the murder of Cameron Logan in an arson attack while he slept in the family home; the mysterious vanishing of bookkeeper Suzanne Pilley on her way to work in Edinburgh; and the cold case of Marion Hodge whose elderly husband was set to stand trial over 40 years after her disappearance. Murder Case is a BBC Scotland commission, made by Firecrest Films.
Mythland (6×30) – Produced by Rogan Productions, explores the enduring power of myths and legends. Paranormal Psychologist Evelyn Hollow, and Comedian Zara Gladman travel across Scotland in search of legendary creatures, mysterious tales, and modern folklore, discovering how myths old and new continue to evolve, unsettle and refuse to stay in the past. The series for BBC Scotland will treat audiences to a wide-ranging tour of the country from the Isle of Skye to the Scottish Borders investigating some of Scotland’s most enduring myths, old and new.
