BBC Specialist Factual has announced that Digging for Britain is returning to BBC Two and iPlayer in early 2027 with a new-look presenting team to be led by Dr Tori Herridge, who is joined by archaeologists Meg Russell and Rosanna Price.

This new series will again bring audiences the best new discoveries in British archaeology and use them to “piece together the ever-evolving story of our shared history.” The presenting team will travel to archaeological digs in every corner of Britain and Northern Ireland and will be accompanied by Prof Stuart Prior and historian Prof Yasmin Khan who will help place the new finds in their historical and archaeological context.

Dr Tori Herridge is a palaeontologist and evolutionary biologist who specialises in the Ice Age. She says: “Digging for Britain holds a special place in my heart as the longest-running and most authentic archaeology series still airing on British TV and it is such a privilege to be forming a brand new presenting team with Meg and Rosanna. Of course the true stars of Digging for Britain are the incredible discoveries that are uncovered year after year and the passionate teams of archaeologists who discover them – Meg, Rosanna and I are just the jammy so-and-sos who get to share their stories with you all. We cannot wait!”

Digging for Britain (6 x 60) is produced by Rare TV for BBC Two and iPlayer. It was commissioned by Jack Bootle, Head of Commissioning, Specialist Factual and Simon Young, Head of History.
