Baby Reindeer took two prizes at the 82nd edition of the Golden Globes, held last night. The Netflix show won best television limited series, anthology series or television film, as well as landing best supporting female actor on television for Jessica Gunning.

In his acceptance speech, creator and lead actor in Baby Reindeer Richard Gadd, said the show succeeded because “we need stories that speak to the complicated and difficult nature of our times.”

Irish actor Colin Farrell (The Penguin) beat Richard Gadd and five other nominees, including Ewan McGregor (A Gentleman in Moscow) and Andrew Scott (The Talented Mr Ripley) to the gong for best male actor in television limited series, anthology series or television film.

The biggest winners of the night were period drama The Brutalist which took three awards, while Netflix Spanish-language crime musical Emilia Pérez and historical epic Shogun both landed four gongs.

The Golden Globes, which is seen as a weather vane for the upcoming Oscars, drew attention to the presence of international titles across the nominees,  pointing to a 2022 study by Whip Media, that shows viewing of non-US titles in America doubled between 2018  and 2021. A phenomenon that follows the increased presence of international streamers.
