Amazon has launched a new unit, Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, which will see the company license its originals to third parties for the first time.

The unit will license titles including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and The Tomorrow War to other media outlets after their initial run on Prime Video.

Amazon MGM Studios Distribution will add Amazon Studios originals to the vast MGM catalogue after Amazon completed its acquisition of MGM Studios last year.

MGM’s distribution chief Chris Ottinger will lead the new unit and will report to Brad Beale, VP of worldwide licensing & distribution at Amazon and MGM Studios.

Beale in turn reports to Amazon and MGM Studios chief, Jen Salke.

“The launch of Amazon MGM Studios Distribution reinforces our commitment to bringing the very best content to audiences everywhere worldwide,” said Jen Salke. “With the integration of MGM, we wanted to take advantage of the existing team to expand our business in ways that will greatly benefit our customers around the world.”
