Amazon MGM Studios has named Tom Lieber as its new Head of Scripted Series, UK.
Lieber has previously been looking after genre programming for the streamer. In his new job, he reports into Laura Lancaster, the head of co-pro TV and ongoing series.
The new structure was set out in an internal communication by Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios.
The move follows Rola Bauer’s exit from the company. Bauer looked after pan-English content and scripted series produced outside the US. That slate now falls under Lieber’s control.
In the internal memo, Sanders said, “In this new role, Tom will provide single-threaded leadership of all new development and ongoing series produced in the UK… The work and executives that were formerly assigned to our Pan-English team will fold into Tom’s new group.”
Sanders went on to say, ““With the recent acquisition of Bray Film Studios and our growing slate of U.K.-based television productions, we will benefit from Tom’s success in managing some of our most impactful global tentpole series. He is well suited to help lead our commitment to further deepen our relationships with the UK creative community. In addition, Tom will maintain oversight of our on-going Genre series such as The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, Fallout, The Wheel of Time and The Boys.”
Head of Northern Europe originals, Tara Erer, will now see her development slate going through Lieber. She will retain control of the current slate of scripted shows including The Rig as well as overseeing UK films, UK unscripted and originals from the rest of Northern Europe.
