Air TV has unveiled its first YouTube channel, as First Landings launches onto the platform.
The new channel captures the nerve-wracking moment trainee pilots land a plane on their own for the very first time. It has all been filmed at the same location where Air TV is based at Leeds East Airport.
Yorkshire-based Air TV is best known for high-volume, returning television series such as Bangers & Cash, Yorkshire Air 999 and Warplane Workshop as well as one-offs and series for the BBC and Channel 5.
This marks the company’s first move into digital-first series. Managing Director Matt Richards said: “We wanted to find an exciting idea that was simple and repeatable, yet captured all of the human emotions which everyone can relate to. No pilot ever forgets their first solo flight, and now we’re able to share the anticipation, the concentration, the adrenaline and the immense pride every student feels when they tackle their first landing. Even better for us – all of this is taking place right outside our office window on an almost daily basis!”
Air has been working with their Leeds East Airport neighbours, The Yorkshire Aviation Academy on the new series which has been in production for the last five months. The flights are captured using a bespoke mini camera rig fixed inside each of the aircraft.
Air TV is planning regular weekly drops of their main videos alongside shorts and other content on the main channel and associated social media channels. They are also planning to add a live stream from the airport to the channel next month.
