Factual production company Air TV is to broadcast a live programme from a light aircraft “for the first time ever” in partnership with live IP-video company LiveU.
The show will allow audiences to see first-hand how to land an aeroplane, live as it happens at Air TV’s base at Leeds East Airport in Yorkshire.
The 40 minute special will see viewers learn in real time how to fly and land a plane, in the company of instructors from the Yorkshire Aviation Academy.
Using several live cameras inside a light aircraft, video and audio will be streamed to Air TV’s Mobile Production Unit on the ground using LiveU’s latest multi-camera encoding solution. This will then be vision mixed together with ground cameras, presentation from the air traffic control tower and flight radar graphics for the YouTube livestream.

It’s been a great test for our latest multi-camera production-level field units and really shows the capability of reliable live streaming in challenging environments. We’ve had a great time testing the kit with the guys at Air TV and the Yorkshire Aviation Academy, and we can’t wait to see the results later this week.”
“How to Land a Plane: Live!” is due to stream live on the First Landings YouTube Channel on Wednesday 12th August at 1700BST.
