Aardman has announced a newly commissioned stop-motion and 2D animated series at Annecy International Film Festival, Let’s Go Timmy!
The 30 x 5 minutes episodes are set in the familiar world of Mossy Bottom and sees Bitzer the sheep dog tasked with getting Timmy and his two best friends, Yabba and Apricot, to Mossy Bottom School safe and on time each morning! Like all excitable children Timmy and the gang are curious, full of energy, and every morning turns into a surrealist escapade as they veer off-course turning the school run into an adventure. Thankfully Bitzer, the long-suffering and faithful chaperone always manages to get to them to the school gates in the nick of time.
Let’s Go Timmy! sees Aardman blend two distinct animation styles: its signature stop-motion animation combines with dynamic 2D animation “which serves to highlight the fantastical worlds of Timmy’s, Yabba’s and Apricot’s imagination.”
The series has been directed by Merlin Crossingham and Daniel Bins and produced by Stephanie Miller with Lucy Pryke, the Commissioning Executive for the BBC.
Sarah Cox, Executive Creative Director at Aardman said: “In this series, we celebrate the joy of the dawdle and the dally as we see Bitzer in a whole new comedic light, steering Timmy and friends to school on time, but often getting drawn into the wonder of the natural world and the power of imagination himself. We are so proud of this glorious expansion of the Mossy Bottom world and the combined talents of the team are creating something truly heartwarming, funny and an absolute visual delight.”
Kate Morton, Senior Head of Commissioning for CBeebies said: “Returning to Mossy Bottom with Let’s Go Timmy! brings a wonderful opportunity to expand a world that’s already cherished by young audiences. It is a joyful, visually rich addition that reflects CBeebies’ hallmark: high-quality, homegrown storytelling that is both engaging and supports early years development. The series captures the humour, warmth and boundless imagination that defines Aardman’s storytelling, while introducing a playful new dynamic with Bitzer at the helm.”
Let’s Go Timmy! will air on the BBC in 2027 and builds on the popular Mossy Bottom franchise already populated by Timmy Time and Shaun the Sheep and targets a 3- to 5-year-old audience.
At Annecy, Aardman and The Pokémon Company International also unveiled new details about ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu’, the upcoming stop-motion animation project from Pokémon and Aardman.
The brand-new adventure is set in Pokémon’s ‘Galar’ region, which shares many geographical similarities with the real-world United Kingdom.
Phil Rynda, Director of Original Animation at The Pokémon Company International, said: “This project gives us a unique opportunity to tell stories from the point of view of Pokémon, made possible by Aardman’s extraordinary craft, remarkable artistry. Their warmth, and affection for this much-loved Pokémon cast are evident in every brilliantly crafted frame.”
Sarah Cox, Chief Creative Director at Aardman added “Aardman are delighted to bring the vivid physicality of Stop Frame animation into the Pokémon world. Director Tom Parkinson and team have created a hand-crafted spin on the wonderful Pokémon we all know and love with comedic storytelling that celebrates the quirks, eccentricities and charms of our heroes as they explore Galar on a delightfully offbeat Quest. Aardman and Pokémon share a strong commitment to creativity and talent on this shared quest of our own to bring joy to audiences across the world.”
Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is an epic journey through the wilds of Galar. The heroes embark on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown. Peril, alliances and rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them.
