Long running BBC sports quiz, A Question of Sport, has been shelved by the corporation after more than 50 years on air.
A BBC spokesperson said that “due to inflation and funding challenges, difficult decisions have to be made, therefore Question of Sport is currently not in production at the moment”.
The show first went to air in 1970 when it was hosted by David Vine. Apart from a two-year gap in the 70s the show has been in continuous production ever since.
The show had recently seen a drop off in its ratings and was not performing well on iPlayer. Its ratings dipped below 1 million last year.
Former tennis star Sue Barker hosted the show from 1997 and was replaced by actor Paddy McGuinness in 2021.
The BBC spokesperson said that the decision to halt production was “not the final whistle” however and it was “not being cancelled – it is just not in production at the moment”.
