BBC Studios has appointed Yasir Mirza to the newly created post of Head of Diversity and Inclusion.

Mirza will lead on devising and implementing a new strategy to improve representation across the business on and off-screen. He will report to HR Director Jabbar Sardar.
 
Mirza joins BBC Studios from Channel 4, where he ran the diversity strategy for the broadcaster. Prior to this, Mirza led on diversity and inclusion for the Open Society Foundations.
 
Mirza also spent six years at Guardian News & Media as Head of Diversity and Inclusion.
 
Jabbar Sardar, HR Director for BBC Studios said: “Driving diversity and inclusion both on- and off-screen is a clear priority, so that we can better serve our audiences and truly reflect modern Britain. We’re thrilled Yasir will be at the helm as we build on existing work to further embed diversity and inclusion into every facet of our culture.”

Mirza takes up his role from mid-March 2020.
