Production Technology Survey 2018 Back to Reports & survey Listing

We also asked our respondents to talk about the kit that has impressed them over the last twelve months. We also asked them what they’d like to see manufacturers come up with next.

Unsurprisingly, advances in drone technology are picked out by the majority of respondents as this has allowed lower end production to fit aerials into the budget and higher end productions to add another layer of finesse.

“Drones are now virtually standard kit on dramas, love or loathe them - I love them,” says one respondent. “The advancement of drone technology has continued to impress me and make it cheaper, safer and easier to add great shots to a production,” says another.

Advances in gimbal technology are probably the second most mentioned favourite piece of specialist kit.  As to what would make their lives easier, there is an overwhelming theme from producers now shooting in higher resolutions and frame rates – data storage and the speed and reliability of transferring data. And ways to manage this cheaply would help too.
