Production Technology Survey 2018 Back to Reports & survey Listing

RAID drives are still the most popular
method for storing production assets with
62% of respondents to the survey saying that
this is their preferred method for backing up files (although the figure was higher at 70%
last time).

Respondents say they are “quick to back-up and cheap” and use them because of “price and ease of access.” They are also “useful and reliable on a shoot, you can encrypt and store easily and securely.” The popularity of RAID drives can be summed up with the answer that “they work. They are reliable. They are cheap.”

LTO is the second most popular storage solution with 38% (26% last time) of respondents naming LTO. The reasons vary with some saying it “avoids the need to buy large capacity Raid 5 drives that sit on the desk.” Whereas many prefer a mixed ecology: “LTO for longer term stability. RAID for shorter term easy access.”
