Production Technology Survey, 2017 Back to Reports & survey Listing

HDR is the new buzzword in production, lauded for the improvement in colour, light and detail it brings to pictures.

However, it looks like it will be a while before the format goes mainstream. Only 8% said they had been asked to deliver content in HDR, up slightly from 7% last year. Some 40% of our respondents have never even seen HDR images on a screen before.

Perhaps for that reason, there’s some scepticism about whether consumers are ready for another format like HDR. Those whose have seen it, though, are impressed. “It is the future,” says one respondent. Another was “very, very impressed by the contrast ratios and colour depth.”
