Top 10 Rental Cameras
The sixth of Televisual’s annual surveys of the camera hire market uncovers sweeping changes as large sensor cameras become de rigueur in all production genres, as Jake Bickerton reports
Most of the producer poll is collated from four separate surveys of the production market, during which we ask producers to name three post houses they use the most and three they rate highest. Broadcast producer votes come from our ‘Production 100’ survey, ad producer votes from our ‘Commercials 30’ survey and corporate votes from our ‘Corporate 50’ survey. We also ask ad, broadcast, corporate and film producers for their favourite post houses in our ‘Production Management’ survey. Separately, we ask feature film post supervisors too.
Overall producer top 10
1. The Farm Group “I rate them highly as you can trust them, all their staff are very experienced and you get a very positive ‘can do’ attitude from runner to md,” says one client. “They always make you feel welcome and never second best to another client,” says another.
2. Envy
“Standards are excellent, particularly for high-end HD projects,” and it has “well serviced edit suites.” It is a “plush setting” with “the best producers in town” and, says another client, “I wouldn't go anywhere else now.”
3. The Mill
The Mill has a long-standing reputation for the “quality” output of its “great operators” say clients who’ve placed it third in the overall producer poll.
4. MPC
Another of the very well established vfx-focused post houses, MPC is admired, says one commercials producer, for its “commitment to great work” and for “still being there after all these years”.
5. Evolutions
The “customer service and scale” of Evolutions impresses many of its clients. They single it out for its “helpful and friendly staff” and for providing “good deals” and “covering all services”.
6. Framestore
Framestore “offers superior quality production through both kit and operators,” says one of its clients. Others point to its “very high quality” output and in particular its “great cg work”.
7. Prime Focus
“Excellent post producers look after the project from start to finish,” says a satisfied customer, while another adds it has “great technical staff and is very competitively priced.”
8. Rushes
The reputable commercials visual effects focused post house Rushes garners praise for its “quality and service” and for being “talented and flexible” in its approach to work.
9. Molinare
Molinare is well liked for its staff, with Billy Mahoney in particular receiving praise from one client for being “the best dubbing editor”. The company is also noted for being “consistent” in producing quality work.
10. Glassworks
Glassworks has a reputation for being one of the key creative players in its market, with one client saying it has the “most creative operators” and another adding that “the creative is all that counts for them”.
