Facilities 50 2015 Back to Reports & survey Listing

A post house’s reputation among its customers
is vital to its success. Here we collate opinions from producers across the board to discover who has the best name in the business

1 The Mill
Commercials specialist The Mill takes first position in this year’s poll of the producers’ favourite post houses. Its voters refer to it as, among other positives, “best in breed” and “always solid, often sensational.” Another describes the facility as “one of the few that has real creative input.” Another producer gives a vote for The Mill simply because it is “behind some of my favourite vfx jobs,” while another argues that “the number of good commercial operators is higher than anywhere else” at the facility. One fan points to its size and stability as a big plus: “They can handle the largest jobs with ease. Very reliable.” while others look to its “brilliant execution every time.”

2 Envy
One of the few post houses with admirers across broadcast, commercials and corporate production, many of its producer fans point to Envy’s “high level of commitment to quality” as well as for being “highly organised” and “fantastically reliable, especially in a last minute crisis.” Still more pick out the facility for its “excellent buildings and equipment” and its “great facilities.” Envy also gets kudos from its customers for its “experienced, knowledgeable staff” who provide great “editorial empathy” and make the “clients feel spoilt,” which adds up to “great customer service enabling cost efficiencies whilst maintaining quality.”

MPC is a firm favourite across our polls among its commercials customers as well as many corporate producers. A large number pick out MPC for the quality of its grading department lead by Jean-Clément Soret with one voter describing the team as “the best colourists in town.” Others praise MPC “because they always go the extra distance to make it perfect.”
MPC sits firmly among the big players within the post production world dwarfing many other more boutique players in the UK but its voters praise its personal touch manintaining a “high level of staff and expertise yet still offering attention to detail that doesn’t feel like a machine.”

4 Framestore
As one production company fan of Framestore very simply puts their reason for giving it their vote: “see Gravity.” And it’s the facility’s stunning features work as much as its commercials work that makes it stand out for many along with its commitment to innovation on burgeoning areas like virtual reality.
But it’s not just Framestore’s creativity that gets it the votes of its producer partners, it’s also praised widely for its “reliability” as well as for being “nice people who deliver every time.”

5 The Farm
The Farm is a firm favourite among the broadcast production community with producer voters singling the company out for its “excellent quality and good friendly service” with others mentioning the post house’s “quality and talent.” Many clients point to The Farm’s ability to keep ahead of the game as production evolves: “They’re the best for anything technical and complex,” says one while another praises its “technical expertise to create and support evolving production needs.”

6 Electric Theatre Collective
ETC only started up in 2012 but has gone from strength to strength since gaining in popularity among its clients in the world of commercials. One picks it out for being “very much ‘in the moment,’ bringing creativity to post production.” Despite its ever burgeoning size, another admirer singles out its “boutique approach and  extra level of creativity” while another puts it simply: “A very good post house. Delivering excellent work for some of London’s best directors.”

7 Halo
Halo does the majority of its work across television drama, comedy and factual as well as a healthy chunk of work for feature films.  Its producer fans pick out the facility’s “good service and good price” and also praise the company for its “really strong creative team.” One of the post house’s producer supporters also picks out its head of production for particular praise: “Will Garbutt’s arrival has put more imagination and energy into Halo’s pitches for work.”

8 Molinare
“Molinare has a great team of people who understand how to deliver the best product for the right price,”  is how just one of Molinare’s grateful clients describes its service. The company scores big with its broadcast production clients as well as with the corporate community and post produces a range of features. It is praised for its “great online and audio and always amenable booking and production staff” as well as for being “flexible and competitive with great talent.”

9 Evolutions
Another firm favourite among broadcast producers is Evolutions with one  happy client saying that “the team are friendly and their facilities are reasonably priced.” Others pick out Evolutions for its “tailored business support and flexibility” as the reason that it attracted their loyalty. Many point to the facility’s staff as being “very helpful and good technicians” as well as its “excellent and experienced post production managers.”

10 Clear Cut
“They understand the client’s needs and go above and beyond” is how one of Clear Cut’s admiring clients puts it. Others describe the facility as “excellent post producers who can cope with big complex series.” Clear Cut also garners kudos for its consistency: “always dependable” is how one producer puts it, “solid pair of hands, reliable” is another take. It’s not all work, work, work though. One voter picks it out for its “good customer service (and a great Christmas party).”

The producer poll is collated from three separate Televisual surveys in which we ask hundreds of producers to name the post houses they use and rate the most. Broadcast producer votes come from the Production 100 survey, commercials producer votes from the Commercials 30 and corporate producer votes from our Corporate 50.
