A sister company to MPC, Technicolor Creative Services focuses on the film and broadcast sectors, offering a full service of post facilities. The company has only been based in Soho since 2008, when it relocated from West Drayton. Known in particular for its film work, Technicolor has been adapting to digital workflows. VP of creative services Tom Cotton says: “In response to the shift to digital, we now service digital front end as well as continue to provide traditional film services.”  Cotton adds: “Digital acquisition and file-based working are now becoming the norm. High profile studios are still opting to shoot on 35mm and low budget productions tend to shoot digitally.”

Films at 59 is a Bristol institution, highly regarded for its TV and film work as well as having an extensive camera hire division. Its reputation and proximity to the BBC’s Natural History Unit mean its credits include some of the most high-profile shows on TV, including David Attenborough’s acclaimed Frozen Planet series as well as Disney Nature’s Chimpanzee. Business development director George Panayiotou says: “The past year has remained buoyant but with increasing pressure on production to work with restricted budgets it’s been tough to maintain the high level of expectations.” Turnover has climbed from £8.4m to £10.2m. Plans for 2013 include increasing market share of drama clients and investment in an online TV channel.

Lipsync is known as both a tradtional post house and a funder of film and high-end TV drama, providing investment for certain productions that use its facilities. Some of its high profile recent credits include Jane Eyre, Birdsong and Shame. Managing director Peter Hampden says “repeat business is strong as our reputation spreads.”.

Commercials-focused facility Smoke & Mirrors has expanded this year with additional premises in Poland Street that, says md Gary Szabo, will be fully online later this year. Turnover is up to £12.5m from £11m last year.

Best known as a PR agency representing media clients, Premier acquired disc authoring and film restoration specialist Dubbs | Eyeframe this year. The company now bills itself as a “full service creative communications agency working across the entertainment, arts and culture industry.”
