HSI has 38 directors, including animation division Dept A. The company made 78 spots in the last year, the highlights of which include Pot Noodle’s Sticky Ribs, directed by Joseph Kahn for Mother, and the Declan Lowney-directed multi-format Walkers Sandwich campaign for AMV BBDO. HSI has signed a number of new directors over the last 12 months, and says there’s been a “noticeable improvement” in workload, even going as far as saying some months have been the busiest it’s ever witnessed. However, this comes at the cost of creativity, says HSI. “Creative quality seems to have dropped off. The recession has clearly dented the confidence of clients, causing a palpable aversion to more adventurous creative work, not to mention an aversion to spending money.”
