Specialist factual producer Lucy van Beek has been appointed managing director of current affairs and historical indie Blakeway.

The appointment comes as Denys Blakeway, the founder of the company, steps back to take a less managerial role.

Van Beek’s appointment is also part of a plan by Blakeway parent company Zinc Media’s to expand Blakeway’s offering to include specialist factual production.

Since 2015, van Beek has been working within the Zinc Media group as an Executive Producer for the company’s documentary arm, Brook Lapping.

In that role, she was responsible for The Greatest Tomb on Earth (BBC2) and China’s Megatomb Revealed (NGCI), as well as The Secret Life of Puppies and Kittens (C5). She began her career working at the BBC’S Natural History Unit on Sir David Attenborough’s Song of the Earth.

Fiona Stourton, Creative Director, Zinc Media, says: “We are delighted that Lucy has accepted the role of Managing Director of Blakeway. The company already has a fantastic reputation for producing award- winning programmes in current affairs, history and documentaries, and it’s the perfect next step for the company to move into the internationally popular genre of specialist factual.

Van Beek will take up her position from 1st November 2016 and will report directly to Fiona Stourton.
