Mipcom: Factual indie Wag TV is planning to launch its own distribution operation.

Wag, which makes shows such as Discovery long-runner How Do They Do It?, is currently looking to recruit an executive to set up and lead the distribution arm.

Wag plans to sell its own shows into the international market, but also to represent shows from other indies too.

Wag founder and CEO Martin Durkin said he envisaged about 10 people working in its distribution operation, which he said would become a key part of the Wag business.

Wag co-finances many of the shows it makes for US broadcasters, such as Quest’s Combat Dealers, holding on to international rights so it can sell the programmes around the world.

Wag currently has 66 hours of programming in production, much of it for international – particularly US – broadcasters. Some 100 people work from its London office.
