CANAL+ and Fox Networks Group Europe & Africa have ordered a new adaptation of War of the Worlds from Howard Overman and Urban Myth Films.

Pre-production has already begun on the drama, which is scheduled to begin shooting in Autumn 2018.

Set in present day Europe, the series is written and created by the BAFTA winner Howard Overman (Misfits, Crazyhead, Merlin). The 8 x 60’ reimagining is a CANAL+ Creation Originale for CANAL+ and the second original regional scripted commission for FNG, Europe & Africa.

Beginning production in the Autumn of 2018, the drama will debut in 2019, on Canal+ in France along with broadcasting on FOX in over 50 countries across Europe & Africa. International sales for the programme will be handled by STUDIOCANAL with rights in Europe & Africa (excluding French speaking territories) handled by Fox Networks Group.

Lead writer and executive producer for Urban Myth Films, Howard Overman said “In many ways H.G. Wells’ novel is a cautionary tale of racial superiority and ethnic conflict. It is these themes that I wanted to explore more fully in my modern re-imagining. I look forward to bringing our bold, fresh and relatable version, inspired by this much-loved story to a new audience.’’

The show will be executive produced by Howard Overman, Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps for Urban Myth Films.
