Televisual is presenting two sessions about High Dynamic Range (HDR) at BVE 2017 at Excel London, 28-Feb to 2-March.

Televisual and Televisual Creative MD James Bennett, who has gained valuable experience both shooting and posting 4K HDR content while making a number of short HDR films for Televisual Creative over the last six months, is running both sessions (an image from one of these, 'The Beauty of Hever' is shown above).

HDR is one of the hot topics this year, but currently many in the industry are unclear what the difference in light and colour values are between standard dynamic range (SDR) and HDR and how HDR enhance the final image. The two BVE 2017 sessions run by Televisual will help demystify all things HDR.

The first session is on the opening day, Tuesday 28th February, and is a panel session focusing on the delivery of HDR, it will be held in the Post and Workflow Theatre from 1-2pm. The panel will debate the rise of new content formats and display technologies and which are likely to be here to stay. As part of this, expect talk about what HDR offers the viewer and what its implications are for post production, and if and when HDR is likely to go mainstream.

The speakers for this panel discussion are David Klafkowski, Technical Director, The Farm Group, James Bennett, MD, Televisual Media, Peter Wilson, Founder, HDDC, Phil Layton, Head of Broadcast & Connected Systems, BBC Research & Development and Simon Gauntlett, Director of Imaging Standards and Technology, Dolby.

The second Televisual-lead HDR session is on Wednesday 1st March from 1-1:40pm in the Post and Workflow Theatre. It is called ‘The Value of HDR – what happens next?’ and is presented by James Bennett with support from Lewis Brown, HDR Evangelist, Atomos. In this session Bennett will show HDR and SDR films playing in parallel so you can see the image enhancement provided by the move to HDR. Brown and Bennett will then be on hand to answer questions relating to production and post production workflows and share best practice thoughts.

Below are two SDR versions of HDR films Televisual Creative has produced for a range of camera and lens vendors.
