Sky 1 HD has commissioned a third 10 x 60-minute series of working class comedy Stella plus a Christmas special from producer Tidy Productions.
Created, written by and starring Ruth Jones, the series – a warm, funny and down-to-earth family saga – became the second biggest UK comedy launch in multichannel history.
The second series is currently filming in Wales and is expected to air in January 2013 on Sky 1 HD and Sky Go.
Sky Entertainment head of comedy Lucy Lumsden said: “The first series of Stella was a huge success and with filming already going so well on series two I am thrilled Ruth will be returning to our customers’ screens for a third series. Stella has been a massive part of Sky’s comedy achievements over the last 18 months and we are very proud to have Ruth and Tidy Productions on board for another brilliant series.”
Series producer and Tidy Productions David Peet added: "We'll have produced more than 30 hours of comedy drama in less than 3 years and it's great to see that Tidy will be an ongoing partner with Sky as it leads the way investing in original British content."
By 2014, Sky expects to invest £600 million a year in British programmes across its portfolio of channels.
