Spun Gold swims with Backshall and monsters for Discovery

Discovery Networks Western Europe has commissioned Spun Gold to produce a four-part adventure and natural history series with wildlife expert Steve Backshall.

Swimming with Monsters
will see Backshall swim alongside four of the most dangerous animals - Anaconda, Hippo, Great White Shark and Humboldt Squid.
 
The series aims to reveal the behaviour and personality of these animals. In each programme Backshall will work closely with behavioural specialists, scientists and extreme divers in order to develop original protocols for diving with them animals.

Dan Korn, svp, head of Programming, Discovery Networks Western Europe ordered the series. Swimming With Monsters is commissioned by Helen Hawken and executive produced by Victoria Noble for Discovery Networks Western Europe and executive produced by Nick Bullen for Spun Gold with Sophie Todd as series producer for Spun Gold.
 
Helen Hawken, director of Production, Factual West, Discovery Networks International said that the series will “build on Discovery’s unrivalled reputation as the home of adventure, survival and natural history with this hugely exciting new commission.”

The programme will air globally in the US as well as the international regions including Western Europe, Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA), Latin America and Asia-Pac. Depending on the market, Swimming With Monsters will air on Discovery Channel and Animal Planet in Q1 and Q2 2013.

Matt Young, executive producer at Spun Gold will be speaking at the Televisual Factual Festival next week at the Working with Talent session and Discovery Networks International's vp of development, factual programming Sarah Davies will be speaking at the International Commissioning session.
