Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has taken a minority stake in UK-based Stolen Picture, the new indie set up by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

SPT has also signed an exclusive TV distribution deal with Stolen Picture, which launched earlier this year.

Stolen Picture has also appointed Miles Ketley as CEO. Ketley was previously COO at drama indie Bad Wolf, and before that co-head of the Film and TV Group at media aw firm Wiggin LLP. He maintains his role as a partner in the media financier Stone Story.

Stolen Picture will produce television, film and digital projects geared towards a global audience across genres and formats.

Stolen Picture’s first project is the film, Slaughterhouse Rulez, currently in production for Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP). The film stars Finn Cole, Asa Butterfield, Hermione Corfield, and Michael Sheen, alongside Pegg and Frost. The comedy-horror is directed by Crispian Mills from a script he co-wrote with Henry Fitzherbert. Sony Pictures Releasing International has worldwide rights to distribute.

Wayne Garvie, Chief Creative Officer for International Production at Sony Pictures, said: “Nick and Simon are good friends of the Sony group already, and this deal will help us take things to the next level. I’m sure that their boundless zest and creativity, coupled with Miles’ insight and energy, will help build Stolen Picture into an exceptional production company.”

Pegg and Frost said: "We're inordinately excited to be partnering with Sony and hope to create a diverse range of television and film in line with our own sensibilities. More than that we hope to receive free Walkmans and a lifetime's supply of cassettes."

Pegg and Frost first worked together on cult Brit sitcom Spaced and have since collaborated on three films with director Edgar Wright – 2004’s Shaun of the Dead, 2007’s Hot Fuzz and 2013’s The World’s End. They also co-wrote and starred in alien comedy Paul in 2011. Pegg is currently reprising his role in the latest instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise whilst Frost is filming the third season of AMC’s Into the Badlands.

The deal was negotiated by Michael Brader and Medwyn Jones of Wiggin LLP on behalf of Stolen Picture, with Richard Parsons leading an in-house team at SPT.
