Sky has announced the launch of Sky Cinema Original Films to acquire exclusive rights and commission original movie productions.

Sky has also announced it is to extend its output deal with Warner Bros in the UK and Germany which will “give customers faster access to new titles and a stronger line up of iconic franchises including all Harry Potter titles, Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, the Lord of the Rings, and the Lego movies.”

In original features production, the first film to be released, animated comedy Monster Family, will launch in March 2018, with the Rob Cohen directed action movie The Hurricane Heist set to follow later in April with sci-fi crime thriller Anon and British production Final Score coming later this year.
As part of this move Sky plans to show its original films in cinemas at the same time as they become available for Sky Cinema customers.

Ian Lewis, Group Director of Sky Cinema, said: “Sky Cinema already offers Hollywood hits, cult classics and local legends, and with Sky Cinema Original Films we’re going to bring our customers even more laughs, shocks, tears and memories than ever before.

“Sky’s original content strategy has already been successful across eight genres of television – now we’re taking it to film to give our content-hungry customers even more reasons to keep coming back.
This is only the start for Sky Cinema Original Films with more movies to be announced soon.”

Monster Family centres on the Wishbone family! When an evil witch turns mum Emma (Emily Watson) into a vampire, dad Frank (Nick Frost) into Frankenstein’s Monster, and kids Fay (Jessica Brown Findlay) and Max (Ethan Rouse) into a Mummy and a werewolf, they must go on an adventure chasing the witch (Catherine Tate) around the world to return them to their human selves. But when Dracula (Jason Isaacs) and his mischievous bats kidnap Emma, the family are thrown apart and forced to find their inner strengths, reunite and reverse the curse that turned them into a MONSTER FAMILY

The Hurricane Heist: As an unstoppable and deadly hurricane bears down on the Gulf Coast of the US a mandatory emergency evacuation is underway clearing the city. The storm proves to be the perfect cover for a team of hackers to infiltrate a vulnerable Treasury facility and steal $600m.
Bracing himself for the impact of the hurricane, storm chaser and meteorologist Will (Toby Kebbell) finds himself caught up in the chaos and teams up with Casey (Maggie Grace), the only Treasury agent left standing and his wayward brother, Breeze (Ryan Kwanten). Together they must stop the ruthless thieves from pulling of the heist of a lifetime and survive the storm of the century. Directed by Rob Cohen.
