Sky beefs up Comedy commissioning team

Sky has bolstered its Comedy commissioning team under head of Comedy Lucy Lumsden, recruiting a new commissioning editor and appointing another, as well as introducing a head of development.

The team which commissions across the portfolio of Sky entertainment channels – Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Living and Sky Arts will include Jon Mountague (commissioning editor), Saskia Schuster (commissioning editor), Ben Boyer (head of development) and Nicole Muldowney (development co-ordinator).

Jon Mountague joins Sky as commissioning editor. He has worked as producer and executive producer with the BBC, becoming head of BBC Comedy North. His credits include Ruth Jones’ I'm With Stupid, The Visit with Steve Edge, We Are Klang and Ideal starring Johnny Vegas. Before and after his departure from the BBC, he worked as a freelance producing and developing comedy shows with a number of indies for ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and BBC Radios 4 and 5.

Saskia Schuster is promoted to the position of commissioning editor from her previously held executive producer position where she has worked on projects including the Little Crackers series of films for Sky 1 HD as well as both Psychobitches and several films from the Playhouse strand for Sky Arts HD. She is currently working on the latest raft of Little Crackers commissions as well as The Young Doctor’s Notebook (Sky Arts HD), Ronna & Beverly (Sky Atlantic) and both Gates and The Spa, which will launch on Sky Living later this year.

Before joining Sky, Schuster was a development executive at Toff media, where she executive produced The Armstrong and Miller Show for BBC 1 amongst other projects. She has worked at Talkback Thames and Objective Productions on a range of shows from BBC Radio 4 comedy drama Bumps and Bruises through to Peep Show for Channel 4.

Ben Boyer joins Lumsden’s team as the new head of development for Comedy. Boyer is moving to the Comedy programming team after eight years at Sky, most recently as senior content and commissioning producer, Sky 1 HD and Sky Atlantic HD, Multiplatform, within the New Media team. In this role he was responsible for developing and producing scripted and unscripted extension series for use over a variety of platforms. These included the popular Thronecast in support of Game of Thrones, the online Lost fanzine show The Lost Initiative and the podcast series for An Idiot Abroad.

Before moving to Sky’s London offices he worked in the LA office liaising with US studios across the portfolio’s acquired programming. Before that he was a co-ordinator in the BBC’s Programme Acquisitions department in LA.
