Jane Featherstone’s drama indie Sister Pictures is to launch its new rolling writer-in-residence scheme.

Led by ex-Kudos boss Featherstone and Sister Pictures’ Development Executive, Alice Tyler, the new scheme is designed to “nurture emerging voices,” offering one new writer at an early stage in their career the opportunity to join the Sister development team on a biannual basis.

Working closely with the selected writer on a slate of their own original ideas, Sister will also offer shadowing opportunities, designed to give practical insight into the development and production process.

Each writer will be attached to a specific project, allowing them to attend development meetings and story-lining sessions that relate to it, and the opportunity to shadow established writers and experienced execs.

Founder Jane Featherstone said: “‘I have been struck by the need to take responsibility in nurturing the much-needed next generation of voices. I hope that our new scheme will provide a series of new writers with an invaluable development opportunity in a safe, salaried and supportive environment, as well as helping to refill the pipeline of talent coming through the industry.”

Applications are now open and will close Friday 26th January 2018. Writers should apply, via their agent, with a CV, a 500 word statement of why they would benefit from the scheme and a sample of their original dramatised work – a short film, spec TV or feature script, or a stageplay.
