Scottish broadcaster STV has bought 25 Sony PMW-400L cameras plus Sony wireless adapters and field production kit from reseller CVP.

The XDCAM cameras and tools will be used across all of Scottish TV’s newsgathering operations.

Initially STV will continue to shoot its local news coverage in SD in IMX50 format, using the new kit within Scottish TV’s Avid Interplay production environment.

The plan is for the Scottish commercial broadcaster to make a transition to HD 422 in future.

The deal also includes 25 Sony CBK-WA101 wireless adapters which will be used to send either proxy or high resolution media from the PMW-400s over a wireless network to a broadcast server or cloud environment.

STV channels operations manager Sam Dornan said: “With five dedicated production sites across Scotland, and a wide geographical area to cover, easily integrating footage into the news production workflow is both challenging and vital to us.”

The company has also invested in eight PMW-1000 decks and four PMW-50 SxS field gear units.

STV’s investment follows the recent announcement that ITV has invested in over 190 PMW-200 and PMW-400L cameras for its regional newsgathering.
