A new campaign backed by a coalition of global organisations and celebrities calling upon leaders to prioritise the fight against malaria features David Beckham in a glass box surrounded by thousands of mosquitos.

The campaign, Malaria Must Die, So Millions Can Live, is based on a creative by R/GA London and RSA director Baillie Walsh.

Offline edit was by Final Cut, post production by Absolute Post and music and sound design by Machine.

Kai Lu Hsiung Managing Director of RSA said; “This important film was rather challenging to make. We’ve never cast 10 000 mosquitoes in a film but they didn’t disappoint. David was brilliant and much credit is owed to Absolute Post for their dedication to authentically multiplying mozzies in what I consider a post-production feat. We are thrilled to have been part of such a special project for the global malaria campaign.”

Absolute Post completed the Post Production.  James Coore, Creative Director at Absolute Post said: “This project was a wonderful opportunity to work for a great cause.  And it was an honour to be working with both David Beckham and Baillie Walsh.

We made an inspiring visit to the school of tropical medicine, where we learnt a lot more about malaria than we already knew.  Gaining a much better understanding of how to combat the disease.

"As a technical challenge we got to research and implement some flocking techniques we have been developing.  We had to further this research to replicate the awkward and erratic flight patterns of mosquitoes.  With the added challenge that our mosquitoes needed to land and alight from the glass box surrounding David.

"Dealing with the technicalities and creating images of such small creatures but still maintaining the fidelity was a great challenge.  Not forgetting to mention the fantastic hard work of one of our CG artists Aaron Masih who worked tirelessly to execute all the R&D. And it is always a pleasure to work with our talented compositors Ben Robards and Carl Godwin Alvarez.”
