Pulse launches film distribution arm

TV, film and commercials production company Pulse has launched its own in-house film distribution arm and has appointed Anna Sissons as film distribution manager.

Pulse CEO, Thomas Benski said that "given the type of films we make, and the fact we are now financing a large proportion, we no longer see the value of enlisting a third party distributor. So setting up a distribution arm is a natural progression for Pulse’s development and growth as a media business. It is a strategic move to take control of the promotion and distribution of the slate of fan and event-based projects that Pulse has been producing for the last few years. These films require a different type of release strategy and we feel more suited to fully leverage those audiences."

Sissons joins from Dogwoof where she worked as Outreach Coordinator. While there, she project managed the 'Popup Cinema' initiative.
The first film to be released under the Pulse banner will be the critically acclaimed LCD Soundsystem doc Shut Up and Play The Hits, which opens for one night only in 50 cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Tuesday, September 4. It's already had a theatrical run in the US where Pulse used a self-promotion strategy using social media to ask LCD Soundsystem fans whether they wanted to see the film theatrically in a given city. They also staged a 'takeover' of the website which acted as a destination point for fans. This included exclusive content, a tie-up with Vice magazine, premiere ticket sales, latest news and social media elements.
Pulse has teamed up with Google+ Hangout to facilitate the fan 'hangout' for a Q&A with James Murphy at the UK premiere. Fans around the world will be able to login into the 'hangout' to view the Q&A, and will be joined there by other members of LCD Soundsystem who will interact with the discussion in real time.
