Grading and finishing house Wash has moved from the Hackney base it began in two years  ago and has set up a new facility in Farringdon.

The moves comes as the commercials based facility looks to improve its offering, and move into more long form work and visual effects-heavy pipelines.

“We have got to the point where we are taking on more and more work, and the jobs are getting bigger and bigger. Alongside our commercial work, we completed our third long-form feature at the end of 2018, and wanted to pave the way for more of that in 2019 and beyond,” said founder Jon Dobson.

Wash has added a new hero suite, capable of handling 4K Dolby Vision Mastering. “It’s good to diversify and offer that capability now. We have invested a significant amount of time and money in supporting HDR workflows.”

“In the long run, it should pave the way to taking on Netflix productions and other similar work while ensuring our existing client base can benefit,” said Dobson.

Built on a brand new Windows based system, the HDR suite is running DaVinci Resolve on an HP Z8 G4 workstation and incorporates Titan graphics cards as well as the DeckLink 8K I/O card. The investment also includes a set of DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panels and the latest EIZO ColorEdge CG3145 for HDR monitoring.

With four suites in total running on a mixture of HP workstations and iMac Pros, Wash opted for direct attached SAS RAID storage for each system to support 8K playback in real-time.
