Plimsoll Productions has appointed former BBC commissioner Rachel Morgan as Head of Specialist Factual.

The indie has also named Jonathan Jackson as Finance Director and Alison Bennett as Head of Community Outreach.

All three executives will work out of the company’s Bristol office.

In her new role, Morgan will focus on specialist factual and documentary programming for both the UK and international markets.

Morgan previously worked as Commissioning Editor of Specialist Factual for the BBC where she was responsible for shows and co-productions including The Greatest Tomb on Earth with Albert Linn & Dan Snow (Nat Geo), Forces of Nature with Brian Cox (PBS) and Expedition New Earth with Professor Stephen Hawking (Smithsonian).

Before commissioning, she spent a decade in the indie sector working for many many UK indies, eventually becoming Director of Programmes at Endemol owned Darlow Smithson where she oversaw the seven hours of live coverage of King Richard III’s Reburial for Channel 4.

"I’m absolutely delighted that Rachel has decided to join our creative leadership team,” said Grant Mansfield, CEO of Plimsoll.  "Plimsoll has never been busier and Rachel’s expertise, experience and success, both as a commissioning executive and an indie producer, will be invaluable as we continue to expand."

In his new role, Jackson will oversee Plimsoll’s strategic financial affairs as well as help devise and implement growth objectives and opportunities.  Jackson previously spent six years at DRG, where he ultimately served as Group Managing Director to lead the company through its sale process.

In her new role, Bennett will be responsible for organizing the company’s community outreach that already includes working with the Stephen Lawrence Trust, a partnership with the Channel 4 Production Trainee Scheme and offering six-week work placement for young people from diverse backgrounds.

The appointments come on the back of a busy year for Plimsoll.  Since launching four years ago, the company has produced over 40 series for both domestic and international networks.

Most recently, the company launched a Cardiff office and, from its office in LA, adapted its Channel 4 format Rescue Dogs to Super Dogs for Animal Planet in the US.

Earlier this year, the British Chamber of Commerce awarded the company the High Growth Business of the Year award.
