BBC Studios’ md of Entertainment & Music, Suzy Lamb, has appointed Peter Davey, former Controller of Comedy and Entertainment at ITV, as the new showrunner for Red Nose Day 2019.

Peter Davey will lead the Red Nose Day production and oversee the show from a creative perspective alongside a new team. He will work closely with Ben Caudell, BBC Studios Comedy Executive Producer, Colin Hopkins, Executive Producer and Mel Crawford, Head of Creative – Red Nose Day and Comic Relief. Richard Curtis, co-founder and vice-chair of Comic Relief, continues in his role as Executive Producer.

Davey was previously Controller of Comedy and Entertainment at ITV, overseeing the schedule and developing and delivering shows including Dawn French’s Little Big Shots; the BAFTA award-winning Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration Live; Rose d’Or award-winning gameshow Bigheads and comedy titles Harry Hill’s Alien Fun Capsule and Keith and Paddy’s Movie Show. Before joining ITV, Davey worked as the showrunner on ITV’s Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hunt for Jesus Christ Superstar. He also worked for a number of indies including September Films and Lion TV, creating, developing and producing shows.

Suzy Lamb said: “I’m delighted to have Peter on board as showrunner for Red Nose Day 2019. He is a highly creative, collaborative and experienced programme maker, who is fantastic at managing talent. BBC Studios has a long heritage of producing Red Nose Day, which over the years has been enjoyed by millions of people and raised over £1billion.”

Peter Davey said: “The opportunity to work alongside the cream of British on-screen talent under the iconic Comic Relief banner and with Suzy’s dynamic team was far too exciting to miss.”
