Sky Vision and October Films have backed a new US start up, Talos Films, set up by producers Julian P. Hobbs and Elli Hakami, and based in New York.

Talos Films will create and produce event documentaries and docu-dramas, character driven unscripted series, formatted shows and scripted projects.

Julian Hobbs most recently headed up scripted development and production at History, where he oversaw The Bible (pictured), Vikings and the upcoming Roots.  As a VP and EP at History, Hobbs developed and oversaw  hits including: Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, Counting Cars, Ice Road Truckers, America: The Story of Us, and the Emmy Award winning Gettysburg.

Elli Hakami was MTV’s EVP of Current Series and Programming, overseeing series including Catfish and The Challenge as well as True Life specials. Hakami was previously the SVP of Unscripted Programming and Production at BBC Worldwide Productions.

For October, the deal is part of a strategy to grow through partnerships while remaining independent. It's the first deal of this type the UK production company has done and they are on the look out to do similar deals in UK and US.

Adam Bullmore, MD of October Films said: “We’re incredibly proud to be backing Elli and Julian - two of the most talented and creative individuals we know - in this exciting new joint venture.   Using our experience to form innovative partnerships with other individuals and help them build their businesses is a key part of October’s commercial and creative strategy as we continue our own growth as an independently owned company.”

Jane Millichip, MD of Sky Vision said: “Julian and Elli have an amazing track record both at networks and production companies, with an impressive slate of factual, documentary and scripted content. We are looking forward to working with Talos and October Films in this new venture. Sky Vision has developed strong relationships with independent production companies on both sides of the Atlantic as Sky grows a broad, international content business spanning broadcasting, production and distribution. Talos will become another important partner as we continue to build our presence especially in the US market.”

Hobbs and Hakami will serve as co-Presidents of Talos Films, which will include Adam Bullmore, MD of October Films and Sky Vision MD Jane Millichip on its board. Talos Films is represented by CAA.
