Oxford Scientific Films (OSF) has appointed former BBC commissioning editor Lucinda Axelsson to its executive team.

Executive producer Axelsson’s recent credits include Snow Bears for BBC1 and the wildlife drama series Serengeti, both of which were produced by John Downer Productions.

Formerly a producer at the BBC’s Natural History Unit, in 2014 she moved on to become a BBC Commissioning Editor in the Specialist Factual department, a post she held for three and a half years.

During this time, she oversaw wildlife series, documentary series, popular science, presenter-led shows and animal dramas, including Spy in the Wild, Snow Chick and Pets Wild at Heart (John Downer Productions), the Bafta-nominated Attenborough’s Life that Glows (Ammonite Films) Tribes, Predators and Me, and Elephant Family and Me featuring Gordon Buchanan with the NHU.

In addition, she was also responsible for The World’s Most Amazing Hotels and James May: The Re-assembler as well as science titles including Cosmonauts for BBC4.

Axelsson’s association with OSF began in 2004 when, as a freelance series producer, she helped create the hit series Meerkat Manor with OSF for Discovery. For the BBC she created Nature’s Weirdest Events.

OSF chief executive Clare Birks said: “I have long admired Lucinda as a hugely talented producer.  There are few executives in the industry with her breadth of experience, particularly in natural history, a genre where we are experiencing an unprecedented demand both in the UK and internationally.”

OSF creative director Caroline Hawkins added: “Ever since the happy days of Meerkat Manor series one, we have talked about getting back to together.  I’m delighted we’ve been able to make that happen at last and extremely excited about the creative possibilities our new collaboration opens up.”

OSF is part of the ITV Studios-owned Boom Cymru group.
