Noah Media Group has been commissioned by ITV to make a new doc fronted by Ian Wright marking the 40 years since Viv Anderson became the first black footballer to win a full cap for the England national team.

Presented by Wright, the series charts the rise of black footballers in Britain through a compilation of individual stories past and present. The show combines archive footage with original interviews and contemporary documentary filming.

It is directed by Gabriel Clarke (Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager, Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans, The Fight of their Lives, and Clough) and Jay Gill (Euro 96: The Summer Football Came Home and Sports Life Stories).

Gabriel Clarke, Chief Creative Officer, Noah Media Group said: “Out of Their Skin will be a compelling two-part series marking a key anniversary in sporting and cultural history through a collection of football’s most inspiring and poignant personal narratives. Working closely with the ITV Sport archive, we’re able to deliver a passionate narrative that shows how football and the nation’s social histories are forever intertwined thanks to the courage and talent of black footballers – whilst also investigating what more still needs to be done.”

Ian Wright, said; “I’m delighted to be part of Out of Their Skin, a hugely important series which will tackle many issues close to my heart. I’m looking forward to speaking to some of my heroes from the past, team mates and old rivals – all black players who have inspired me throughout my career – as well as current and future stars. Emotional and entertaining personal stories will be told as we find out how far football and society have come, and crucially, how far we’ve still got to go”
