BBC One has ordered a new foodie series, Nigel and Adam’s Farm Kitchen. Nigel Slater and Adam Henson join forces to show how to get most value, variety and flavour from the top 50 foods bought in the UK week in and week out at the supermarket.

Over four episodes, Slater and Henson will sow, grow, rear and cook with the country’s favourite fresh ingredients on a working farm in the Cotswolds, run by the Righton family.

Slater aims to put the art of cooking back into Britain, showing different ways to cook with these favourite ingredients, to create dishes from the traditional British roast to the more exotic meals found in our restaurants and takeaways.

Henson, meanwhile, will take on challenges to grow some foods not normally produced in Britain for Slater to cook with. He’ll be growing ingredients such as rice, Asian mushrooms and durum wheat which is used to make pasta.

Throughout the series, Slater and Henson learn many new skills from each other. Henson learns Slater's top tips on preparing a Sunday roast and Slater lends a hand on the farm during lambing, and rears his own three little pigs.

They will set up stall and sell some of their farmed produce to the public, with all money being donated to the BBC’s Children in Need.

Nigel And Adam’s Farm Kitchen was commissioned by Alison Kirkham, head of commissioning, Features and Formats. The executive producer is Tina Fletcher and the series producer is Kate Shiers, both for the BBC

Kirkham says: "Nigel and Adam are two of the most popular faces on BBC One so it is incredibly exciting to bring them together. Their areas of knowledge and expertise are naturally complementary and the shows will, I hope, leave us all with a fuller understanding of the meals we eat."

Alison Kirkham will be speaking at the Televisual Factual Festival at BAFTA on 7th November. To find out more and to book to attend, go to the Festival website.
