A new animation studio, Local Hero, has been launched by long term collaborators Dom Thompson-Talbot, Stephen Dalton and Nick Losse.

Between them Dalton and Losse (Ubik) and Thompson-Talbot (Up The Resolution / Art & Graft) have created music videos, stadium tour visuals, commercials, promos, airline safety films, broadcast graphics and VFX while working with talent such as Chris Morris, Peter Mullen, The Who and Russell T Davies.

As part of directing collective Up The Resolution, Thompson-Talbot was responsible for a portfolio of work that ranged in tone and style from music videos for The Automatic, Guillemots and The Cinematic Orchestra through to commercials for Space NK and Seat and TV graphics for Chris Morris’s sitcom Nathan Barley. He followed this by becoming an original team member of Art & Graft where he produced all of their early work, including the Virgin Atlantic Safety film. More recently, he has been freelancing for animation houses along with producing the 50th anniversary tour visuals for The Who.

Thompson-Talbot  said: “Even though I’ve hugely enjoyed the last few years freelancing at places like 1st Avenue Machine, Passion and Friends Electric I’ve found I’ve missed the studio environment where there’s more of a collective creative approach to the work, the pipelines are more nimble and the types of clients can be more varied. I’m thrilled by the prospect of getting back to doing what I’m best at and just as excited to be working with my good friends Nick and Stephen.”

Creative Directors Nick Losse and Stephen Dalton’s partnership was cemented while working as artists at animation studio Tandem.  Under the moniker Ubik, they were initially repped by Not To Scale where among other work they designed and directed the VFX for Russell T Davis’s Wizards Vs Aliens. They then went on to join 1st Avenue Machine.

Dalton and Losse said: “The next and natural step for us is joining forces with our long-term friend and collaborator Dom Thompson-Talbot to form Local Hero. The Three of us are firm believers that the best ideas are generated in the close-knit cut and thrust of the studio environment. It’s this creative ethos that will drive us forward as Local Hero.”
