NAB2015: Blackmagic reveals extensive new camera line up

Blackmagic Design has announced a raft of new cameras at NAB including a lightweight version of the Ursa, the Ursa Mini.

Blackmagic Ursa Mini is described as a compact and lightweight Super 35 digital film camera for handheld use.

Ursa Mini features an 4.6K image sensor, switchable global or rolling shutter, up to 15 stops of dynamic range, a large 5 inch fold out viewfinder and dual Raw and Apple ProRes recorders.

The Mini is available in four models, with customers able to choose either EF or PL lens mounts and 4K or 4.6K image sensors.

Prices for the Blackmagic Ursa Mini start at $2,995 for the 4K EF model.

The new sensor will be available in two new models of the Blackmagic Ursa camera.

The Blackmagic Ursa 4.6K EF model will be available for $6,995 and the Blackmagic Ursa 4.6K PL will be available for $7,495.

Both 4.6K models will start initial limited shipments in June and ramp up to full volume in late July and August.

The new Super 35 image sensor features high resolution of 4608 x 2592 at 120 frames per second and 15 stops of dynamic range.

Blackmagic has also rolled out the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K, a miniature Ultra HD and HD studio camera for live production that delivers high quality pictures.

Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K will be available in July for $1,295.

The company has also launched its version of an action cam in the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera, a miniaturized Super 16mm professional digital film camera with a new expansion port that lets customers use PWM and S.Bus model airplane remote controls to operate the camera wirelessly.

Other launches include:

Blackmagic Ursa Viewfinder, a high resolution electronic viewfinder specifically designed for the Blackmagic Ursa and Blackmagic Ursa Mini digital film cameras.

The viewfinder will be available in July for $1,495.

DaVinci upgrade

The company has also revealed its biggest ever upgrade of grading system DaVinci Resolve. Version 12 has over 80 new features for professional editing and color grading.

The update includes a new modern interface, multi-cam editing, new media management tools, a new professional audio engine with support for VST/AU plug-ins, shot matching, 3D keyer, new 3D perspective tracker and enhanced curve editing.

Blackmagic Design has also announced UltraStudio 4K Extreme, an advanced Thunderbolt and PCIe video capture and playback solution.

UltraStudio 4K Extreme features many type of video connections including quad link 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.0, plus it includes a built in multi format hardware codec.

A new dual link 12G-SDI capture and playback card has also been revealed.

DeckLink 4K Pro includes a high performance eight lane PCI Express Generation 2 connection for dual stream capture and playback of high frame rate Ultra HD and 4K video up to 2160p60.
