Blackmagic Design has unveiled the latest update for Da Vinci Resolve and a new open protocol for Ursa Mini Pro cameras that will let users create remote control solutions for the camera.
Black magic is calling DaVinci Resolve 14 “the biggest release in the history of the product, and an update that has been designed to be more than an incremental software update, but a complete revolution in post production.”
New features include up to 10 times performance improvement, a new audio post production suite with Fairlight audio built into DaVinci Resolve, and multi user collaboration tools that let multiple people edit, colour and mix audio from multiple systems, all in the same project at the same time. So Blackmagic says that it is like “three high end applications in one” with pro editing, colour correction and the new Fairlight audio tools with an easy switch between the three.
A public beta of DaVinci Resolve 14 will be available from today for download from the Blackmagic website.
Blackmagic also announced a new open protocol for URSA Mini Pro cameras that will allow users to create their own remote control solutions via Bluetooth. The protocol is being demonstrated at NAB, and the API and sample code should be released for free in June.
URSA Mini Pro cameras already have built in bluetooth, but it hasn’t been enabled until now. The built in Bluetooth will allow users to send and receive commands from up to 30 feet away. A demonstration iPad app and sample code will be provided to those that want to use the feature but they can build their own app to add in more control features.
