Molinare has boosted its 4K and UHD services with the acquisition of both Mist and Ice from Marquise Technologies.

The acquisition was made through UK solutions company Big Pic Media.

The new facilities complement Molinare’s existing services, with them now offering further 4K DCP, 4K/UHD Mastering, QC and validation services as well as IMF capability; in addition to SMPTE mastering and alternate frame rate solutions.

Richard Wilding, CTO of Molinare, said: “We wanted to identify solutions which could deliver exactly what our clients need now and in the future.  The broad capabilities of the systems, their specialist features for new implementations such as High Dynamic Range video and IMF packages, combined with the rapid development of the software to support new applications, were all exciting reasons to adopt these products.  This will meet our current clients’ requirements and those of the next generation of Molinare customers.”

Molinare and Big Pic Media worked together with Marquise to develop two custom-built solutions.  The Marquise Technologies Mist mastering system for DCI cinema, broadcast and OTT deliverables, such as Digital Cinema Package (DCP), Interoperable Mastering Format (IMF) and a broad range of emerging transmission, master and archive formats.  Also the Marquise Technologies Ice playback system for playback, quality control assessment, measurement and analysis of a wide range of file formats and deliverables, including validation of IMF and DCP packages.

Molinare chose the Marquise solutions for the performance options available with the equipment.  Notably, the power of the specified systems to handle 4K/UHD at up to 16-bit uncompressed data rates and the use of third-party hardware that can be tailored to exact requirements, offering ease of upgrade and performance enhancement. Marquise is committed to the development of the systems and are working closely to deliver international standards for emerging applications.
