Paul Mc Guigan's Frankenstein for Twentieth Century Fox begins shooting this week in the UK, with co-stars James McAvoy as Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe as his assistant Igor,  joined by Downton Abbey actress Jessica Brown Findlay.

The UK shoot is based at Longcross and Twickenham Studios and locations will include Chatham Historic Dockyard, which has also been used by Les Miserables, Sherlock Holmes the movie and Downton Abbey.

McGuigan, who most recently directed episodes of BBC's Sherlock, is working with for LA-based Davis Entertainment. John Davis is producing alongside Mairi Bett and executive producer Brittany Morrissey.

Mc Guigan's version will be shooting as Australian director Stuart Beattie's  I, Frankenstein is released at the start of 2014.

Beattie's movie is a modern sci-fi fantasy, shot in Australia and featuring Frankenstein's monster with the Christian name Adam.

Meanwhile McGuigan's version is also not exactly a slave to the original. Max Landis (Chronicle) has written the screenplay, from Mary Shelley's novel, which revolves around the relationship between Igor and Victor Von Frankenstein. "It’s a really dark adventure – it’s not really an action movie but it’s got a lot of action in it," says McAvoy.

The UK shoot wraps in March and the movie is scheduled for release in January 2015.
